What a crazy busy weekend

Saturday was a much awaited 'Birthday Bash' with some mummies/incredible women that I met online because our babies were all due around the same time. This was for my son so it has been over 2 years that I have been chatting with and forming friendships with these ladies. In the course of that time I have had the pleasure of meeting a handful in person, it is difficult as we are all scattered across the country, with a couple overseas. I myself was living in London when hubby put me on to the Australian site. A couple of them had travelled interstate for the catch up on Saturday which was great. It was truly a great day, if not a little chaotic with all the rug rats getting about. I am just so grateful to have such a wonderful group who have been a great source of support and advice on this little adventure, I have learnt so much!

Sunday was my niece's 6th Birthday and was held at one of those indoor play centre's. Holy crap, kids are nuts! They were running around screaming, plus it wasn't just her group...it was open to the public as well as other birthday parties going on. I pity the poor women that have to work there and listen to that all day, it would do my head in, ha ha. Thankfully it was only for a few hours, my son had a great time though. My daughter couldn't fall asleep from all the screaming while we were there and was knackered, she ended up sleeping for 3hrs when we got home cause she was that tired!

Monday was a play date at my house with some girlfriends and there little ones, I much prefer catch ups at home so that I can relax and feel secure in the knowledge that my house it fairly kid proof and they can run amok. Which gives us mummies a better chance to sit down and chat, going out for coffee etc usually results in having to chase your kid around and make sure they don't touch things etc. ha ha. That was great, I even managed to abstain from the usual sweeties that go along with coffee/catch-ups.

For very good reason! Hubby dangled a big carrot of motivation in front of me the previous evening. He essentially asked me what my ultimate goal weight would be (60kg FYI) and said that if I got down to that he would then buy me (well us really) the 4WD family car that I want (I really want a 7 seater!). He knows how to motivate me, what can I say?! ;) I accepted his challenge and it is game on.

So I will keep you posted with how that's going as well, I am also keeping a food diary to try and keep myself honest and accountable. I am not quite ready to go gung ho but have made changes to my diet and will get back in to exercise next week. Probably wasn't the smartest idea kicking off the week of Easter, I am sure there will be a naughty thing or two consumed over the weekend...I just need to make sure that I make up for it!

Also it would be nice to get some feedback to see if people are reading and enjoying my ramblings, I get paranoid that people aren't really interested/aren't reading and is it worth doing...so feel free to leave a comment and reassure me that is not the case ;)

Till next time xo

Damn you germs

So the germs my son brought home from Kindy last week are doing the rounds and have finally made their way to me. At the moment I wouldn't go as far as saying I was sick, just not 100%. It probably doesn't help that the last couple of nights have been exhausting as my daughter is all snuffly and it's making her wake more frequently and harder to settle.

Also I am happy to report that the hairdresser was able to fix my son's hair the other day. It is amazing how much older they look when they get their hair cut. I still remember his first hair cut, he was 11 months old and we were given a certificate and a little lock of his hair, naww. It's crazy how quickly time flies, I feel like my daughter is getting so much bigger every day. It is almost time for her 4 month shots, needless to say I am not looking forward to it.

In other news, I am going out for a girly dinner this Saturday night. I will have to express a couple of bottles and hope that she is well behaved for daddy. I may even just have a glass of wine with dinner ;) This will only be my second time away from her, the last was when hubby & I went to dinner for my birthday and left the kids with Nana. We were only gone 2 hours total though as I was stressing that she may have been cracking it. I don't know why but I am always worried that she is going to get upset and inconsolable, I know hubby is more than capable but I am expecting a call to say come home...let's hope that doesn't happen though.

I learnt a lesson today, when making cupcakes...if you only have one muffin pan but are making two batches at the same time...the cupcakes/patty pans will not hold their shape just placed inside a normal oven tray. Doh! If only I wasn't so impatient, I should have just waited and done them one batch at a time...oh well.

There is absolutely nothing on TV tonight, I think early to bed for me it is.

Till next time x

It was bound to happen...

A home haircut gone wrong. My husband had cut our sons hair once before and actually did a decent job of it. Unfortunately he was not quite so lucky this time round. It all began when we went out yesterday with the intention of getting it done professionally. However, every single place we went to said they charge a full adults price on weekends and it's cheaper during the week...what is up with that?! So after a lot of umming and ahhing my husband decided to give it a crack. Now my son bears a slight resemblance to Friar Tuck! ha ha...I think my husband forgot that when the hair is wet it is one length and when it dries it shrinks back up. I will be taking him to the hairdresser tomorrow to get it fixed.

Another thing I find frustrating, my son developed a snotty nose & a cough over the weekend (thanks kindy germs). I went to go & buy him some cough syrup today (as I was under the impression it was from 2+) only to discover it is 6+. I mean, come on, how hard is it to develop something age appropriate? What are kids with coughs meant to do for the first 6 years of their lives, suffer? There are a couple of natural options, one of which I tried when he was under 2 as it was from a young age and that did absolutely nothing. If they can make panadol and nurofen for kids that age then surely they could make a cough syrup for them as well. I don't think it is bad enough for a trip to the Dr but I did want to give something to help ease his discomfort as it's been disrupting his sleep a little. Fingers crossed it buggers off on it's on accord and he doesn't get it again  this Thursday.

Time seems to be flying with my little girl, I turned her forward facing in the baby bjorn for the first time today. She is just like her brother in that they both like being able to see what's going on and of course the obligatory chewing on the front of the baby bjorn. I swear by the amount of drooling she is already doing, it won't be long before she has little toothy pegs. Plus she has turned in to a caterpillar, at the end of last week she discovered that if she puts her head down/bum up and pushes of with her legs she can inch forward. That  coupled with the rolling means she is already quite mobile. I don't remember my son being quite that active this soon, it really is true that the second does things quicker as they are spurned on by watching their sibling. It feels like it won't be too much longer and she'll be crawling, she's only just over 3 months!

That will keep me on my toes.

Till next time xo

Sunshine, how I missed you.

We are finally having a break from the rain here in 'sunny' QLD, I didn't realise how much I missed the sunshine till I realised what a nice day it was today...I wanted to get out amongst it and not waste it.

Saturday mornings are my son's swimming lessons with daddy, I used to do it with him last year but pulled him out over the winter because it was getting too cold and he would shiver the whole time. Today was his sixth lesson back and the first time he was actually good and not screaming hysterically. I switched places with my husband a couple of times previously to see for myself how he was and he would get worked up whenever he had to put his head under the water. He was happy as Larry to splash about and kick but all hell would break loose if he knew an activity was coming up where he would have to go under. Apparently today he finally did the lesson and everything thing it involved willingly. Huzzah!

We ended up going out for lunch just the 4 of us, both kids were well behaved. Normally babies have some sort of internal alarm clock that conveniently makes them go off whenever you want to try to eat, ha. After lunch we went across the road for a play in the park. It was a lovely way to spend the day, however brief it was. Gone are the days of being out the whole day (well where you can help it), it's all about trying to work around kids nap times.

Don't get me wrong, I am not anal about leaving the house if they are due for a sleep. Of course I prefer to plan around it if I can, who wants to be dealing with an overtired child if they can help it?!

The only thing that would cap this night off is a nice cold glass of cider and a chocolate bar (or ice cream, I'm not fussy), neither of which I have...woe is me.

So instead I will settle for watching the latest Grey's Anatomy episode, gosh I am such a party animal these days. ha ha.

Till next time x

Thursday 14 March 2013

Gotta love kindy day...

Thursday is kindy day. My one day a week without my wilful toddler around, my mini tornado of destruction. Don't get me wrong, I love him to bits...but gee he can be a handful sometimes.

We started a new phase a couple of weeks ago, apparently everything is 'MINE' said in an insolent 2 year old kinda way, it drives me nuts. As well as asking for something, then when you make that something he cracks it and doesn't want it. I then say fine whatever don't have it, which results in 'MINE' and taking said item. Gotta love the terrible two's hey, ha ha. I also wonder if anyone else's 2 yr old purposefully makes a mess to play in (with food & drinks). He will tip things out everywhere then play in it, I feel like I am forever cleaning up after him. So it is just nice to have a day off from the destruction.

It also amazes me how different him & his sister were/are as babies. My son was a terrible sleeper (he didn't sleep through the night until 16 months when I weaned him off the boob) but a rather quiet/placid baby for the most part. My daughter on the other hand I call the demanding diva (said tongue in cheek), she can go from 0-100 in a matter of seconds...and boy is she loud! However, unlike her brother she is a decent sleeper (still wakes a few times a night but she's only a few months old). I think you learn not to make the same mistakes twice, so she already knows how to self settle. No patting, shushing or rocking this time round...no siree. Who has the time for that when you have a toddler as well?!

The only other issue we have is that unlike most babies, she doesn't seem to be a fan of the car. Most car journeys involve full on crying, I think it may be part separation anxiety because when I pull over to put the dummy back in/calm her down and she sees me, she calms down. It isn't every single time though so I find it a bit confusing. I am hoping she will grow out of it...

I wonder if these differences are gender related or that they are just there own little person with individual personalities. Obviously they would have their own personalities, I guess you just can't help but compare them. It was the same with my labour, I expected it to be similar this time around and it was totally different.

I can't wait until she is of an age when they can start playing together, at the moment he doesn't really understand why she can't dance with him or play with his toys but bless him for trying. They really do melt my heart on a daily basis, as well as sometimes driving me a little batty.

Ok I suppose I should go and hang out the laundry, seems like the housework is never ending these days...

Till we meet again x

P.S - Is it lame to use the same sign off all the time, cause I'm thinking of doing just that.

Whoops, where have the last 15 months gone!

A lot has happened since I last wrote, most notably...we have added to our brood and my son now has a little sister.

My son just turned 2 last month (what an 'interesting' age this is!) and his sister was born back in December. Needless to say I was quietly sh*tting myself at what the reality of having 2 would be like. I was rather surprised that so far I have managed to roll with the punches. There are the obvious challenges involved with any busy 2 year old, he likes to test the limits sometimes and see what he can get away with. There weren't any real jealousy issues, occasionally he will tell me to put his sister to bed because he wants me for whatever reason.

I feel sorry for my daughter slightly, being the second child, she doesn't get my full attention very often. The second child has to put up with their older sibling making a racket and occasionally getting bopped on the head by said sibling. My son was lucky in his birth order in that he got our undivided 1-on-1 attention, he had peace & quiet (which I now realise is not such a great thing) and was probably a touch spoilt.

It definitely has its moments and keeps me busy, I relish the moments where I just get to sit down and do nothing. I especially like it when, on those rare occasions,  the two of them are asleep at the same time...ahh bliss!

My daughter is incredibly cute and I could just eat her up, I love her dearly. I love them both even though they each do things that can sometimes do my head in. Our lives are richer for having our blessed little family. I appreciate it so much more as I recently heard about another girlfriend's friend whose young son is dying of cancer. It is such a cruel world sometimes and my heart aches for that family. As much as our children sometimes give us the sh*ts, we need to stop and realise how god damn lucky we are that they are healthy.

I'm not really sure what inspired me to come back to the blog and write this post, or whether I will continue to do so. It's certainly hard finding the time and there is always something that needs doing. I must say though that I do enjoy writing and getting my thoughts out so I guess we will see what happens.

Till we meet again xo
